gmmpIn May, GMMP’s factory in Gliwice will return to a three-shift system. The car maker suspended the third shift as a result of the economic crisis and lower orders in early 2009.



How many people will the company take on? “Currently, we’re planning to create 600 new jobs,” said Jacek Żarnowiecki, personnel director at the Opel factory. “However, this number is still changing, as we’re getting more and more orders for Astra IV,” he adds.

If the current market trends in Western Europe continue, more than 160 thousand cars should roll off the assembly lines in Gliwice this year. This would mean an increase in GMMP’s production by 60 per cent compared to last year.

New jobs will also be created by some of the suppliers for which the Gliwice factory is one of the key customers.

“We’re planning to employ new people at our Gliwice branch,” said Janusz Soboń, president of Kirchhoff Polska. Kirchhoff Polska manufactures, among other components, engine mounts, platforms and dashboard crossmembers for Astra IV - “Increasing production at Opel means about 15 new jobs in our company,” he added.

New jobs will also be created by companies such as Gedia Poland Assembly in Nowa Sól and Keiper Polska in Skarbimierz.

AutomotiveSuppliers.pl has calculated that the third shift at GMMP’s Gliwice factory will create about 200-250 new jobs in the supply sector.
