23th September Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland (TMMP) produced its 5 millionth unit in the Walbrzych plant, in Poland.
To highlight this production milestone TMMP held a celebration at the plant, attended by Toyota Motor Europe’s Executive Vice-President, Hiroyuki Ochiai, along with TMMP’s management and members.
TMMP production capacity has now reached over one million units per year: 360,000 engines and 720,000 transmissions, making TMMP Toyota’s largest unit production facility outside Japan. Toyota has already invested over € 500 million in the Walbrzych plant and employs over 2,000 members.
Today’s celebration for the 5 million production milestone was achieved with around 1,680,000 engines and 3,320,000 transmissions. Hiroyuki Ochiai said: “Achieving this milestone shows our commitment to local production in Europe. This is a great accomplishment for us and we are delighted to celebrate this occasion here in Poland, in the first European Toyota plant to achieve such a significant landmark.”
The history of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland began in April 2002 with the start of production of a 5-gear manual transmission, used for the assembly of Yaris, Corolla, Corolla Verso and Avensis produced in the European plants of Toyota. The initial production capacity was 250,000 units per year.
A decision to expand the TMMP production range and volume was made by Toyota Motor Corporation early 2002. This resulted in the start of production of 1.0-litre gasoline engines and multi-mode transmissions for Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107, supporting the vehicle assembly in TPCA, the plant jointly owned by PSA and Toyota in Kolin, Czech Republic. Thanks to this new product line up the total production capacity increased to 930,000 units per year.
In September 2008 the Toyota plant in Walbrzych celebrated another milestone with the start of production of the new generation 6-gear manual transmission for Yaris, Auris, Corolla, Verso and Avensis.
In addition to TMMP in Walbrzych, Toyota’s operations in Poland include one more manufacturing site, Toyota Motor Industries Poland, located in Jelcz-Laskowice, as well as a National Sales and Marketing Company, Toyota Motor Poland, in Warsaw. Toyota additionally runs Banking Operations under Toyota Bank Polska and also Warehouse and Logistics operations as Toyota Logistics Services Poland.
